Revolution Media

The Film Industry
The film industry has long been a centre for glamour, innovation and escapism. From the Hollywood hills to the streets of London, a career in the film industry can really take you places. But where to start? Traditionally, you would have to know people in the industry to get ahead, however there are many more pathways into the industry with big businesses opening their doors to independent and young talent.
Here at Revolution Media we are proud to be fan girls (and boys) of all things film. As such, there are plenty of opportunities to get invloved in making, appreciating and talking about film right from Year 7. Why not join one of the Media Projects at The Hub? Or if you're in KS4 and 5, have a go at entering one of the Manchester Film Festivals? Our courses in Media Studies also offer a lot of opportunity to study, make and engage with film and it's important to start building your film portfolio for any application that you make. See our course detail and The Hub pages for more info. But whatever you do, may the force be with you!

The life of a film student
Having begun my career as an independent film maker, I can assure you that being a film student and making movies is one of the most rewarding things you can do in your life time. It's also one of the busiest and challenging careers that you can engage in, but the result is worth the effort. In my gap year (at 18) I produced an independent documentary on the making of 'An American Werewolf in London', it took 3 years to get to the big screen and on DVD (courtesy of Universal Studios and director John Landis) but it was a huge achievement for all involved. We premiered the documentary at Fright Fest, Leicester Square at the ODEON cinema in 2010 as well as at Quentin Tarantino's cinema (The New Beverly) in Los Angeles.
After beginning the initial process of making the documentary I attended Westminster University in London to complete their Film & TV Production BA Hons degree, this experience inspired me to take the skills I had learned and pass them on to the next generation through teaching Media Studies. The industry needs more young talent and people who are going to break the mould, and starting at the grass roots, Revolution Media aims to equip you with those skills to make your mark. As Willy Wonka once said, "We, are the music makers and we, are the dreamers of dreams"- nothing truer was said of the passionate Media student.
