The UK’s Creative Industries are recognised as world leaders around the globe and today’s figures show that they continue to grow from strength to strength. They are one of our most powerful tools in driving growth, outperforming all other sectors of industry and their contribution to the UK economy is evident to all."

Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport:

The ever changing media industry is full of exciting opportunities to expand your creative and professional skills, as well as giving you the chance to climb the career ladder. Although the industry can be challenging, frustrating at times and totally consuming, it is one of the most dynamic, exciting and expansive industries to work in today. Providing both UK, European and international employment, you have the chance to make waves at every level and engage with both academic and practical projects.

It is no longer true to say that studying Media limits your prospects of a career or what would be defined as a 'good' job. In fact, the media industry has been an integral part of the UK economy in recent years, with the UK’s Creative Industries now having an estimated worth of £92 billion per year to the UK economy (Mar 2018 Creative Industries Federation). According to the government report the creative industries also accounted for 2 million jobs in 2017.

There are many sectors of the industry to get involved in at both an independent and commercial level, for example film making, music industries, radio, television, PR and marketing, advertsing, gaming, producing, technical and IT support, documentary making, producing, acting and script writing to name but a few.

The industry is no longer a closed club for the media elite, more and more opportunities for young talent are emerging with commercial companies creating apprenticeships and graduate programmes. If you have the passion and the drive, then you can do it.
