The Music Industry
"Music is my religion" once quipped the awesome tour-de-force that was Jimi Hendrix, though he joined the '27 club' he left a permanent mark on the face of the music industry and his music continues to inspire today. Music is not only a glamourous industry to be involved in, whether musician or roadie, but an integral part of the media industry itself. Without music, there would be no OSCAR winning soundtracks, no memorable scenes in Tarantino films, no adverts, that despite hours of therapy, will not leave our heads.
You don't have to be musical to actually be 'in music', though good taste is kinda a prerequisite (Bieberettes and 1D fans need not apply) it's not limited to you just playing an instrument or singing. The industry still needs music video makers, make up artists, costume designers, branding and marketing managers, PR managers, events organisers... the list is endless. So, doing Media at GCSE and/or A Level will put you in the position where you can be managing artists (good luck!) and their campaigns, take them on tour (enjoy finding all the mad requests on the ryder) and set up their stages or events.
At both GCSE and A Level you can create print and video campaigns for music artists, if you're a budding singer/songwriter, performer or aspirational PR campaigner then 'The Lytham Factor' is probably for you. There are plenty of ways at Revolution Media to experience the trials, tribulations and definite rewards of being part of this fabulous and life changing industry.
Some advice...
"I never thought that my path would lead to me running an independent record label after starting out as a songwriter/producer. In my experience, the tenacity to succeed has taken me further than looking for a quick fix. In the long run, hard work wins every time. I have learnt that in the creative industries your aspirations can take you further on your journey than you think."

"If you get rejected in the music industry then don’t take that as a criticism of you personally. More often than not you were just the wrong person, in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Take these experiences on board but never stop learning. Trying to forge a career in music has taught me perseverance, and most of all the fact that you never know what opportunities are going to lead you to where you need to be. So don’t pass up any chances you get, talk to people, be sociable and make an impression on those you meet because you never know who is going to help you achieve your goals. Oh and you’re only as good as your last gig."
